Second Joint IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference September 9-11, 2009 – Gdańsk, Poland |
Dear WMNC 2009 participants
As the organizers and steering committee members, we take this opportunity to express thanks to all of you who contributed to the success of the 2nd Joint Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference, held at Gdansk University of Technology, Poland, between Sept. 9 and 11, 2009. We are grateful to our speakers for their high quality contributions and presentations, and for all the effort they put into organizing their trips to Gdansk. We owe special gratitude to the IFIP WG 6.8 members, as well as our keynote speakers and participants of the companion events - the Internet of Things session and the IMS panel, for the enrichment of WMNC 2009 scientific content. We do hope you enjoyed both the exchange of ideas during our discussions and the whole of your stay in Gdansk. We also hope to be able to welcome you here again sometime.
With best regards,
Jozef Wozniak & Jerzy Konorski
Members of the international wireless networks research community have for many years split their conference activity among a number of IFIP-sponsored events, including PWC (Personal Wireless Communications) – since 1996, MWCN (Mobile and Wireless Communication Networks) – since 1998 and WSAN (Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks) – since 2007. In 2008, PWC and MWCN steering committees joined forces to establish Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference event series, the first of which was held in Toulouse (France). As of 2009, WMNC welcomes another pillar, Wireless Sensors and Actor Networks (WSAN), and will be held at Gdańsk University of Technology, on September 9th – 11th 2009, under the name 2nd Joint IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference. It will consist of three tracks reflecting topics originally covered by the three constituent conferences.
The vibrant city of Gdańsk is the capital of Pomerania, a culturally and economically rich region of northern Poland situated on the Baltic coast. Proud of its 1000-year glory and the cradle of the potent Solidarity movement, Gdask appears at its best in mid-September, a season aptly called the golden Polish autumn. Each year over a 1,5 million tourists are attracted by the city's picturesque old town with its numerous churches, merchant buildings dating back to the Hanseatic League, unusual presence of two town halls, and the towering St. Mary's cathedral, world's largest brick construction. For centuries Gdańsk has been also famous as a leading center of amber culture and trade. The social program of the conference will provide an opportunity for the participants to enjoy all the local amenities.
